Congress Renews Resettlement Benefits for Ukrainian Parolees

The Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act has been signed into law. In addition to sending critical aid to Ukraine, this legislation also provides humanitarian assistance, including renewed funding for Ukrainian refugees in the United States. The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) has been authorized to resume providing resettlement assistance to Ukrainians paroled between October 1, 2023 and September 30, 2024. The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) Calls on Congress to Reauthorize the Lautenberg Amendment

On August 14, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) called on Congress to reauthorize the bipartisan Lautenberg Amendment, a family reunification program providing a legal path for resettlement for religious minorities fleeing government persecution. The program requires annual reauthorization by both the Senate and House of Representatives. Failure to reauthorize the Lautenberg Amendment puts this vital resettlement pathway in danger of closing to Ukrainians and other people who seek religious freedom. Read more

Ukrainian Travelers Should Be Prepared for U.S. Customs Interviews in Ireland, Canada, or Other Preclearance Sites

Ukrainians who are traveling from or through Ireland, Canada, or the Caribbean should note that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) may conduct their entry interviews in those countries rather than at a United States airport. Please alert travelers who have layovers in or are boarding flights from certain countries that CBP may conduct their interviews abroad so they can schedule accordingly to allow additional time for each travel group member to be interviewed.
