Are you a recent arrival from Ukraine who is looking for affordable health insurance but don’t qualify for Medicaid? Ukrainians who are paroled into the U.S. after Sept. 30, 2024 are not eligible for federal benefits from the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). However, certain Ukrainians may be eligible for low-cost benefits and/or insurance offered by state or private entities.
Our Ukraine Immigration Task Force has partnered with volunteers from Nova Ukraine to publish a comprehensive guide on “Applying for Low Cost Health Insurance in the United States.” This guide provides an overview of the health insurance options for noncitizens and shows step-by-step instructions for applying for state and marketplace plans. It also explains eligibility categories based on income and family status, highlights ways to save money, and summarizes the differences between types of health and dental coverage.
This guide is available in English, Ukrainian, and Russian on our website’s Resources in the United States page under the “Benefits and Social Assistance for Ukrainian Parolees” section. Additional information on Medicaid can also be found in the Medicaid FAQs flyer in the same section.
