Attention, Ukrainians who are traveling to the United States! If you or someone you know is traveling from or through Ireland, Canada, or the Caribbean, you may be interviewed by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the airports in those countries, before arriving at a U.S. airport. CBP may conduct their entry interviews at a “Preclearance” site abroad.
CBP Preclearance is the strategic stationing of CBP personnel at designated foreign airports to inspect travelers prior to boarding U.S.-bound flights. Travelers who are inspected and cleared at these foreign airports are then able to bypass the U.S. Customs and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) inspections upon arriving to the United States. They may proceed directly to their connecting flight or destination in the U.S.
CBP has officers and agriculture specialists stationed at 15 Preclearance locations in 6 countries:
- Dublin, Ireland
- Shannon, Ireland
- Calgary, Canada
- Toronto, Canada
- Edmonton, Canada
- Halifax, Canada
- Montreal, Canada
- Ottawa, Canada
- Vancouver, Canada
- Victoria, Canada
- Winnipeg, Canada
- Aruba
- Bermuda
- Nassau, Bahamas
- Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Please alert travelers who have layovers in or are boarding flights from the above countries that CBP may conduct their interviews at those Preclearance sites. Accordingly, Ukrainians traveling through or from those counties may want to allocate additional time to their travel schedule in order to allow all the members of their travel group to be interviewed by CBP. This will help reduce surprises and missed connecting flights.
